marijuana panel on real estate landlord tenant cannabis

Yesterday, Toscano Law Group attorney Kelly Cournoyer was featured on a panel at the Hampton Roads REALTORS Association Conference & Expo.

"I know that your [law] firm is at the forefront of so many issues with the legalization of marijuana," said an event organizer who invited Cournoyer.

The room was packed to hear Cournoyer and other panelists to discuss the effect of the General Assembly's recent law on marijuana on real estate and the landlord-tenant relationship.

Many topics were discussed including:

  • Marijuana and maintaining a real estate license.
  • The impact on retail spaces. What will future dispensary owners face in terms of business licenses and potential neighborhood backlash?
  • Tenant use of marijuana on the premises of a rental property.
  • Can landlords prohibit tenants from smoking marijuana in the back yard?
  • Can landlords prohibit tenatns from growing marijuana on the premises?
