UPDATE:

The Virginian-Pilot covered the outcome of the case. The federal jury deliberated eleven hours over two days before delivering its verdict.

According to Pew Research Center, only 2 percent of all federal criminal cases go to trial.

"Although I am unhappy with the verdict, our firm prepared a fighting defense on a week's notice," said federal criminal defense attorney Diane Toscano. "And the jury was deadlocked on its decision for eleven hours. We plan to appeal."
