Title IX Officers

As a Title IX coordinator, we know the immense responsibility you have to fairly and compassionately administer the federal government’s Title IX requirements when it comes to sexual assault.

We also know how challenging this role can be. Students dealing with trauma. Conflicting information. Lives hanging in the balance. And it seems as though the federal regulations are ever-changing.

We have also seen from our own experience how steady counsel by the side of anxious students who are thrust into this complicated process – in some cases, by no fault of their own – can lead to less contentious proceedings and more just resolutions. In playing a positive role in helping to resolve Title IX complaints, we are grateful for opportunities to help put students on the path to picking up the pieces and moving forward from these traumatic experiences.

Our firm, Toscano Law Group, was founded in 2013 and Title IX is one of our main practice areas. Our office is located in southeast Virginia, but our attorneys have represented clients in Title IX cases at multiple Virginia colleges and universities across the Commonwealth. But during this pandemic, we’ve also been involved in Title IX hearings from afar via videoconference.

Rather uniquely, one of us was a Title IX deputy coordinator at a Virginia university and managed university investigations and Title IX hearing panels. And beyond Title IX, our attorneys are very familiar with college and university processes, having represented clients in university employment actions as well as serving as past counsel to one university’s campus police force.

Our lawyers stand ready to assist you and Virginia’s college students.

A certified sexual assault investigator, Ms. Nattermann holds the distinction of being one of the very few, if only, practicing Virginia attorneys who has served as a university Title IX deputy coordinator. This insider’s view of the Title IX process and her work on university investigations makes Jana an asset in any institutional Title IX proceeding.
